The
coaching plan
Best
practice approach
We work with individuals
and teams in the context of their larger systems. Our coaching approach
is built on a foundation of best practices as promoted by International
Coach Federation:
1.
Setting the foundation: Meeting ethical guidelines and
professional standards; establishing the coaching agreement.
We consult and contract at the outset with both coachee and client
to establish a three-way partnership and coaching plan. We work
only with coachees who desire to develop themselves and are committed
to being coached as part of their development. Initial consultation
with both client and coachee establishes whether or not we are compatible
and decide to move forward.
2. Co-creating
the relationship: establishing trust and intimacy with
the client.
Trust, human connection and customized learning are the distinguishing
powers of the coaching partnership. We are skilled, empathic, experienced
communicators and guides. While the partnership is focused on the
coachee, we believe in working also with key stakeholders, when
appropriate, to support and accelerate the individual’s learning
and success.
3. Communicating effectively:
active listening; powerful questioning; direct communication.
We use one-on-one coaching conversations as a foundation for most
coaching relationships. We are skilled and experienced communicators.
We balance empathy and challenge, using powerful questioning, observation
and feedback to move the coachee forward.
4. Facilitating learning and results:
creating awareness; designing actions; planning and goal setting;
managing progress and accountability.
When appropriate, we draw upon a number of assessments, tools and
techniques, including: 360 degree feedback, EQ in Action Profiles,
MBTI or other assessments, communication styles inventory, action
learning, appreciative inquiry, shadowing and observational reports.
Team work or facilitated workshops may also be used. Coachees can
expect to have work between coaching sessions.

Getting
started
Each coaching partnership is unique and designed according to client
and coachee needs. That said, the process typically begins with
a consultation between coach, client and coachee, (individually
or together). The initial consultation serves to:
- Clarify the reason for coaching
- Introduce each other and start to build relationship and trust
- Clarify intentions to be open, honest and authentic
- Clarify boundaries, confidentiality, etc. to create a safe
starting point for the process
- Assess whether there is a good match between parties
- Gather information toward a coaching plan

The
coaching plan
The coaching plan forms the basis of the coaching contract and the
coachee’s development plan. This customized plan outlines
the steps to be taken toward coachee success. Typically it includes:
- Coachable goals, success measures and timelines
- Coaching (development) program design process, steps or elements
- Accountabilities
- Evaluation plan
- Estimated costs
